چکیده
Metal-catalyzed C–N cross-coupling generally forms C−N bonds by reductive elimination from metal complexes bearing covalent C- and N-ligands. We have identified a Cu-mediated that uses dative N-ligand in the bond-forming event, which, contrast to conventional methods, generates reactive cationic products. Mechanistic studies suggest process operates via transmetalation of an aryl organoboron CuII complex neutral N-ligands, such as nitriles or N-heterocycles. Subsequent generation putative CuIII enables oxidative coupling take place, delivering nitrilium intermediates pyridinium The reaction is general for range N(sp) N(sp2) precursors can be applied drug synthesis late-stage N-arylation, limitations methodology are mechanistically evidenced.
